Cambridge University released the results of a global study of virtual currencies as of 2017.


According to the document, the dominant position on cryptology is bitcoin. Meanwhile, if in May 2015, the share of “digital gold” accounted for 86%, then by March this year the figure fell to 72%, and at the moment is about 48%.

Since June 2016, DASH, Ether and Monero have demonstrated significant growth. According to experts, the number of full-time employees in the crypto industry in the world reaches about 1,876 people, of which 720 live in the Asia-Pacific region, 29 in Europe.

 At the same time, the number of active users of virtual wallets increased from 2.9 million in 2013 to 5.8 million people this year.

According to researchers, 52% of purses have built-in exchange functions. 80% of them provide services for the exchange of national currency to digital currencies.

As of March of this year, Bitfinex, the largest share in the market, was 16%.

The main digital currency, supported by exchanges, purses and payment companies, is bitcoin.

According to the specialists of the University, on the world map, the mining capacities are distributed unevenly, a significant proportion of them are occupied by Chinese provinces.

In the period from 2010 to 2016, the total income of miners increased from 0.2 million to 2073 million dollars.
