Vanuatu govt denies accepting Bitcoin for its $200,000 citizenship program

Last week The South Pacific Island of Vanuatu reportedly become the world’s first country to accept the virtual currency bitcoin for its citizenship program.

The South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu denied it is accepting payments in Bitcoin for its $200,000 citizenship program.

Vanuatu’s Citizenship Office has distanced itself from reports that it is accepting bitcoins for citizenship of the country.

According to the Acting Secretary General of the Vanuatu Citizenship Office, Samuel Garae who confirmed in this in a media release debunk this as false. All payments still should be made in US dollars exclusively.

The statement said any other arrangement by any sub-agent would not be considered by the Citizenship Office.
